Cultivate His presence....

Jehovah Jireh - The Lord Provider;
Jehovah Raffa - The Lord Healer;

A new insight into the names that God introduces Himself to the people of Israel. For us, our faith is not a formula or receipe on what to do and what to avoid in order to experience God. Ours is the experience of a person in our lives - Jesus.

1 Corinthians 1:30 - But of Him you are in Christ Jesus, who became for us wisdom from God - and righteousness and sanctification and redemption...

Became for us.... our wisdom, He is our wisdom, He in us. Our righteousness, He is our righteousness, a person not dependent upon ourselves, He in us. Our sanctification, our redemption, He in us. Our all.... our prosperity, our healing, our health, our peace..... He is.

And He is unchanging... unchanging yesterday, 2000 years ago and even beyong; unchanging even today, now,.... very real now; unchanging even unto tomorrow, unchanging....... what He is, He will always be. Jehovah Jireh, Jehovah Raffa, Jehovah.... the God of 'I am who I am'.

1 Sam 15:29 - And also the Strength of Israel will not lie nor relent. For He is not a man that He should relent.

For He is a person! Learn to cultivate the Lord's presence in our everyday life. Like David in the wilderness, he talks with his Jehovah, he sings to his Jehovah.

Choose life....

Deuteronomy 30:19-20 - .... that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing; therefore choose life, that both you and your descendents may live; that you may love the Lord your God, and that you may obey His voice, and that you may cling to Him, for He is your life, and the length of your days;.....

Jesus said, 'I am the resurrection and the life.'

And God's presence gives rest.

Exodus 33:14 - And He said, "My presence will go with you, and I will give you rest."

Jesus said. 'Come unto me and I will rest you.'

Cultivate His presence daily, and there will be neither adversary nor evil occurence.

Sympathetic or pathetic

I had seen the old lady (perhaps in her late 60s) many times. She sells tissue papers, moving from tables to tables in the various coffee shops in this neighbourhood. The bag she carries with her have some crudely written words.... asthmatic, supporting self. Occasionally, I give her a dollar. I suppose is because of admiration for someone who despite her age, still works for her living.

But, I was somewhat taken aback, when I saw her pick up the leftovers from some of the dinner plates on tables vacated, and stuff them into pastic bags that she took out from her bag. It's more despairing than I thought. I suppose poverty is still very real in Singapore.

There's also that young man, whose's limps and form could hardly support his movements, and even speech. All he could do is to sit on a mat and sells tissue papers to passers-by. Despite his handicap, he still strives to make the effort to earn a living.

The guy outside the NTUC supermarket plays a stringed chinese instrument, I think it's the yue-chin. Not exactly good music, but it's still a tune. He even tried Jiggle Bells with it. The metal tin in front of him says "Thanks for your reward".

I remember also seeing a blind Indian lady, who busks occasionally near the MRT station. Nice music, good voice.

I suppose all these are people erking out a living in their own ways. My sympathies, but honestly, how much, how many can I help?

But on the other hand, there's that middle-aged indian man who sits near the escalator leading to the MRT station. The harmonical in his hands monotonously emits 2 or 3 notes,... not even a tune. Or occasionally, there's this young man (seen him many times in the neighbourhood), able bodied, who come round and asks politely if he could have $2 or $3 for meals. Said he'd out of job for some time. But I suppose his hollow eyes tells a different story.....

These are,..... pathetic.

Firstfruits.....

The links and ties from the old work place still remains.

A few of the guys from the user's department were in the neighbourhood this morning, so we arranged to meet up over morning coffee. Kinda last minute arrangements, but no problem with that. Other collegues from my department SMSed to ask if I would like to join them for lunch at the clubhouse. Well, it's Friday and everyone's more relaxed for the coming weekend. It was afterall, a relatively short week, but there's going to be much catch up, especially hearing about the changes in some areas as well as 1 or 2 more resignations in the department. But it's a rather rushed schedule, so I gave that a pass. Have to do some practice with the brush this afternoon.

***

Bible study, Pastor taught again.... but virtually, lolz.... the recording of yesterday's study. Well, wouldn't really complain as it made no difference to us seated at the 6th floor auditorium.

The word for year 2007 - this would be a year of new beginnings. No trials this year will take our God for surprise, and He has gone on ahead of us.

It is also the final lesson on Secrets in the Hebrew words, and today's on Wealth and keys to Prosperity.

Deuteronomy 18:4 - The firstfruits of your grain and your new wine and your oil, and the first first of the fleece of your sheep, you shall give him.

Roman 11:16 - For if the firstfruit is holy, the lump is also holy; and if the root is holy, so are the branches.

Christ is the measure of our health, wealth, prosperity etc..... how we see Christ is how we measure our well-being. And, our trust is on the one, who is a certain source of provision - Jesus.

Hebrew 7:8 - Here mortal men receive them, of whom it is witnessed that he lives.

And interestingly, Paster also touched on the first verse in the old testament, "In the beginning...." - barashiyt (בראשית), and I had came across this word just a couple of days ago.

בראשית - in the beginning
בר - bar (son)
אש - ashi (head)
ית - yt (hand/power of the cross)

ראשית - firstfruit

מעשר - tithe
עשר - wealth
ע - eye, ש - Shaddai, ר - leader : when your eyes see God as the leader.

Money - literally translated as "silver blood" - the blood of Jesus is currency of heaven. Learn to plead the blood of Jesus for everything we ask. Our sins are forgiven because of Christ is crucified on the cross. The blood which Jesus had shed, purchased for us all our blessings.

One thing that Pastor always does, is that on all subjects, he will always point us back to Jesus. So, even on the study of wealth and prosperity, Jesus is still revealed clearly to us. I really thank God for the teacher that Pastor is. Jesus is always glorified in his messages. And our faith is made stronger and stronger by his teaching!

WHAT THE LORD HAS DONE IN ME

Let the weak say I am strong,
Let the poor say I am rich,
Let the blind say I can see,
It's what the Lord has done in me.

Let the weak say I am strong,
Let the poor say I am rich,
Let the blind say I can see,
It's what the Lord has done in me.

Hosanna, hosanna,
To the Lamb that was slain!
Hosanna, hosanna,
Jesus died and rose again!

Into the river I will wade,
There my sins are washed away,
From the heaven's mercy stream,
Of the Savior's love for me.

I will rise from waters deep,
Into the saving arms of God!
I will sing salvation songs,
Jesus Christ has set me free!

Give me again,... the lad that's gone.

It's a rare treat! The Swedish Ship Gotheborg is in port this week. Rare, because she has been built according to traditional methods. Not only that, but that the same raw materials were used. The original ship was built in the 18th century (1738) for trade between Sweden's Stockholm and China. She sank outside her home port in 1745, on her return from China, with a load of cargo.

The beauty of tall ships had always captured my imagination. So I definitely don't want to let this opportunity of going onboard pass by.

The ship is berthed alongside Vivocity and the crew were still busy onboard. The ropes and sails have to be tended to, and it was definitely no easy task.... very little mechanical aids. Looking at the crew tending to the ropes on deck brings to mind a old folk song we sang in school years ago.....

Over the Sea to Skye

Sing me a song of a lad that is gone,
Say, could that lad be I?
Merry of soul, he sailed on a day,

Over the sea to Skye.

Mull was astern, rum was on port,
Eigg on the starboard bow;
Glory of youth glowed in his soul,

Where is that glory now?

Give me again all that was there,

Give me the sun that shone;
Give me the eyes, give me the soul,

Give me the lad that's gone.

Billow and breeze, islands and seas,

Mountains of rain and sun;
All that was good, all that was fair,

All that was me is gone.

Give me again all that was there,
Give me the sun that shone;
Give me the eyes, give me the soul,
Give me the lad that's gone.

~ Robert Louis Stevenson

well, the lyrics still rings in my ears and stirs up my imaginations..... give me again, all that was there.... give me the lad that's gone.

Coincidentals

Happened to run into 3 friends separately, while on the way to calligraphy class this evening. Strange, such co-incident! Heard that is a bad start for my old department. They are expecting at least 3 resignations this January. This is almost 10% of the staff! Sad.......

The practice sesssion was interesting. And of course, most of us did our own practice during the week. Don't you think it looks like a proper piece of Chinese Calligraphy? (lolz... Juliana, this picture is all the practice pieces put together, specially for you!)
Well, to be honest, it is very very far from a proper one. It is only after actually learning how to write the characters that we come to be conscious and aware of what and how the correct strokes are made. And the errors become very evident to us. Yes, I would definitely need many more months of practice. Hope I can sustain the interest and patience in this new interest.

Oh,.... it really 'poured' again by the time the class is over. Another 'cold' night...... sigh~

The rat's race.....

Woke to a beautiful morning. The rains had ceased although there were still the light showers yesterday afternoon. It would be a good day for my morning jog. It's almost 3 weeks since I last went on the route, so I took it easy. Along the way, said 'hi' two of the neighborhood aunties and also the few familiar faces along the jogging track. The old uncle was walking very steadily today. Had been seeing him exercising regularly since 3 yrs ago. Looks like a stroke had left his right side feeble, but he is improving very well. The group of cyclers was there also, in full force, this morning.

Everyone's relaxed today.

In contrast, an article in today's newspaper, on the front page, mentioned about how some Singaporeans are lamenting about having no time to take their leave. And, even when they are on holidays, they are still working through it. Many even forteited their leave days. Why? Deadlines, heavy workload, no one to cover you when you are away.... all these are just examples of the reasons people gave. This is the kind of stress faced by many in surviving today's rat race.

Sad, isn't it?

For me, a grateful thought. I was familiar with all that. Myself, I had on a number of occasions, forfeited a few days of my leave. Well, not that I am now, out of the rat's race, but, I am glad that at least, I am not caught up in it. And, an even more grateful thought, is that I have a loving and caring God who watches over me. I know I can rest in Him.

The eternal God is your refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms. - Deuteronomy 33:27

I think, I am, of all people, most blessed!
